The DS45 Leather Dobro Strap is made from a single shoulder of full-grain vegetable-tanned Italian leather, 3.5mm thick (at least 1/8"). This leather has a beautiful, unique natural grain and patina that will only improve with age. It even has a proper leather smell. The leather comes from only the best part of the cowhide where it has the strongest grain. Following tanning, the leather has been softened, resulting in a strap that holds your instrument well and gives maximum comfort. (More details below in About Natural Leather.)

Once the shape has been cut out, the edges go through a 5-stage hand-crafted process of bevelling (rounding), polishing, dyeing, sealing and further polishing. The strap is then double stitched all round for extra strength. This is a professional level strap that feels good, looks good and even smells good.

The main strap is lined and padded, with a cutaway section near the end-pin end for picking arm comfort. The strap uses a traditional length-adjustment system with a solid brass buckle. (Let us know if you would prefer a nickel-plated hardware with a silver colour.)

For convenience the headstock loop can be completely detached for the rest of the strap. You can then pack your dobro in its case with the headstock loop still in place. The adjustment length is about 6 inches (15cm), so please enter the approx length you need in the options.

How do I work out the length I need?
The best way to work out the length is to get a piece of string and make yourself a mock-up strap from that. Then lay it out flat on a table and measure the length from the strap pin to  the headstock.  (We will add on extra for the loop.)

A left-handed strap can also be made on request. Check the options for currently available colours. This strap is made to order, which may take a week before shipping.

About Natural Leather (Items marked NT or VT)

Natural leather (AKA vegetable-tanned leather) has been made in the traditional way dating back hundreds of years.  This artisan craft uses natural tannin-rich plant extracts such as from oak bark.  It produces the most luxurious leather, but is slow and expensive. Pinegrove's natural leather then goes through a softening process, where the leather is tumbled in rotating drums with organic waxes and oils. This also enhances the leather's natural grain.

The colours and textures available in natural leather are often limited, so we use other leathers too.  These are always high quality leather, and usually full-grain. Some have an applied finish which we cannot source in natural leather. Examples are mock-croc (cowhide debossed with a crocodile-skin effect), nubuck and some leathers with an antique/relic effect.
